Assembly tooling for all Cambion cage jack and plug products that require it is available. Normally the tooling fits the Cambion manual bench top swager 435-3803-01-00.
Some cage jacks and most plugs require some insertion tooling. Often two punches are offered for each part, a roll punch and a flare punch.
The roll punch is used when a purely mechanical joint is required. Soldering of roll swages is not recommended as flux and air that could be trapped beneath the swage, may blow through the soldered joint.
A flare punch is used when an electrical joint is to be formed using solder. The flare punch is only intended to make the jack or pin finger tight prior to soldering. Excessive pressure used to form a tight mechanical joint when using a flare punch will result in the pin or jack body cracking, damage to the mounting hole or deformation of the board.
