Insulated terminals are either:
- Standoff - where the solder terminal protrudes from one side of the board and is insulated from the board
- Feed through - where the solder terminal passes through the insulator and the board and is insulated from the board.
Insulated terminal are available with a variety of insulator materials and mountinh methods:
- Ceramic - Used where high electrical stresses are encountered or radition is present.
- Diallyl phthalate - Offers best performance in high temperature enviroments, has low moisture absorption and protects from acids and alkalis.
- Teflon - Offers best overall characteristics in electrical stability, enviornmental endurance and mechanical strength.
