EZ-Shield clips, also known as RFI Shield clips, are a convenient and fast method of securing a RFI shield can to a PCB. Available in 3 different sizes which saves PCB space, reduces assembly and rework time by eliminating through–hole manufacturing processes.
The Maxi clip is used for shielding cans using 0.7-1.0mm thick material.
The Midi clip is used for shielding cans 0.3mm thick.
The Mini clip is 40% smaller and is used for shielding cans 0.13mm-0.23mm thick.
Sensitive electronic circuits need to be fully protected and this is achieved by mounting metal shields or ‘cans’ directly to the PCB to fully shroud the required circuitry. These shields are often attached to the PCB using through–hole solder tails and is time–consuming, costly and a high risk of expensive damage can occurr.
Harwins EZ-Shield clips provide a automatic placement method which is soldered using standard SMT placement equipment. During final assembly and within seconds, the shielding can is fitted. It is possible to remove and refit the can a number of times, tuning and rework operations are simplified, and a minimal risk of damage is ensured.
Harwin’s EMI/RFI clips are suitable for applications in telecoms base stations, radio communications, data processing and in–car entertainment systems. They have been successfully used in diverse applications such as the Bowman Military radio project and automotive SatNav/DVD players.
