Aerco supplies Obstruction Lights
Obstruction lights are required by FAA and ICAO regulations on structures
that exceed 45 metres in height.
They will be found therefore on masts, towers, hangers, chimneys, cranes,
even yacht masts. Typical locations include airfields and aerodromes, refineries,
oil rigs, chemical plants, skyscrapers, communication towers, bridges, wind turbines
and offshore installations.
Classically installations have used incandescent lamps but now LED beacons
are preferred for new installations and are also being deployed to upgrade or
replace existing incandescent installations. The benefits of the LED technology
include energy saving, longer life and therefore labour saving on maintenance
with less down-time. For example, the L864 LED medium-intensity beacon is
visible for 24 miles and consumes only 48 watts.
Aerco provides either stand-alone warning lights for replacement of an existing
lamp or a new obstacle lighting installation. Beacons are typically IT65, IP 66 or
NEMA 4X rated to eliminate ingress of water, salt and dust in extreme environments.
Low-intensity lamps provide 50cd, 32cd or 10cd while medium-intensity range from
2000 candles to 20,000. One example is the RTO series LED obstruction light from
Dialight which acts as a direct replacement of incandescent lamps, is ETL certified
and FAA, ICAO and Transport Canada compliant.
However, many customers prefer to take advantage of our kitting service through
which we provide a complete package of the hardware needed to illuminate an
obstruction.
The package might include:
LED obstruction lights (beacons). The lights can be red or white or dual red and
white with options for steady burn of flashing. Intrinsically safe beacons are available
for obstruction marking of structures in hazardous environments, providing a valuable
solution to the petrochemical industry.
Photocell for detection of light levels. These photocells can be used to detect night and
day, for switching lights between red and white. They can also enable light intensity to
be adapted to the ambient light.
Lighting Control Systems that can control lamp on and off times, flashing frequency
(some with sequential flashing using GPS synchronisation) and failure detection.
Junction boxes, cable, fixings and connectors required connecting the whole installation.
Basic packages can be customised or expanded to suit your needs.
Aerco’s experienced in-house design and kitting service for obstruction lighting provides
many benefits:

configuration, FAA equipment classification, the ICAO lighting system configuration
and FCC Chimney Stack lighting requirements.
A one-stop shop for all your equipment requirements.
Expert selection of equipment from world-class manufacturers.
One consolidated shipment to your destination world-wide.
