The SMA series coaxial range are subminiature precision connectors suitable for microwave applications and when used with correctly terminated semi rigid cables can be used up to 18GHz and above (depending on type and accuracy of assembly details).  Using a 1/4" threaded coupling with a hexagonal outer coupling nut to ensure adequate engagement pressure, it’s high mechanical strength, durability, reliability, low return loss (VSWR) and small size, has made this a very popular connector for a wide range of applications in communications, satellite equipment, test and measurement, avionics and instrumentation. In general it is used with cables with outside diameters from 1.8mm to 3.00mm, but versions are available for cables up to 5.5mm.
